The State of Confusion |

Who is Joe Wigner?A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... I was born to unknown parents in a coastal Texas town. Soon thereafter I was adopted and relocated to Lubbock, a town in the Texas panhandle. My childhood was fairly unremarkable. I went to Trinity Christian School for twelve years, graduating in the top third of my class. While in high school I tried running track for a year, participated in Mathematics competitions, helped form and was on the Math team, participated on the English team, and had a variety of other activities, among them being a teacher's assistant and working on the yearbook for a year. But my main interests laid in computers. My parents will tell you that I had a penchant for pushing buttons when I was a kid, and that bloomed into my main interest of computers. At an early age I started programming Apple BASIC on an Apple IIe (which I miss terribly). Through the years I harrangued, cajoled, and sometimes beat my dad into submission for new hardware and software, so much so that my first real job was as a computer technician at a local computer store. There I learned some of the ins and outs of basic computer building and hardware, and I carried that forward with me into the next phase of life, college. Not really sure I wanted to be in a big university, I went to South Plains College, a local junior college, enrolling in nothing else but Computer Science. Here I had the best two years of my life--learning more about and playing with all the computers I could want. After finishing an Associate's degree, I moved on to Texas Tech University where I completed a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. It was there that I became interested in Software Engineering, so I enrolled in and completed a Master's in the subject. Having finished my graduate work, I looked for work but couldn't get hired. December was when I finished my degree, and I soon found out that the winter is a miserable time to try and get hired. Faced with unemployment, I ducked back into the Texas Tech CS doctoral program, comtinuing to apply for a job. Finally, six months after I graduated, I was hired by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company. While with Lockheed I have had the opportunity to work on the Joint Strike Fighter program, and eventually wound up in the Advanced Development Programs. |
